There’s been a lot of attention in the news lately about the Confederate flag and gun control.
Every time a new issue arises, politicians come out of the woodwork to tell us how important it is to them and how something needs to be done to fix it.
Regardless of what you think about any of these “issues du jour” or the elected official who’s talking about them, are you convinced they truly care about these issues and are going to fix them? Or do you just chalk it up to political posturing and pandering?
Basically, if something is genuinely important or is considered to be a priority, why would the people who have the power to change it wait until “after the fact” to finally address it?
Yes, we’re all guilty of reacting. Instead of acting, we wait until something actually breaks before we try fixing it.
Heart attacks, nervous breakdowns, and fender benders have helped convince a lot of people they need to slow down. Hidden cameras, workplace injuries, and employee walk-outs have changed the attitudes of a lot of business owners as well. Unfortunately, these changes often come after the damage is done.
The good news is that it’s never too late to change how you think, act, and manage your business. But the bad news is that if you wait until problems arise, everyone will see your “call for change” for what it really is.
You can talk about your values and priorities all you want. But if you didn’t appear to care yesterday, people will think you’re simply pandering today. Value what you value… everyday.
