If you’re reading this, today is your lucky day. No, you didn’t win a prize. Actually, you got something even better (and no, I’m not talking about this blog). You just got another day, another opportunity to do whatever it is that you do.
So… what is it that you do?
I’ll go first. I’m a teacher and a coach. I help people in the dairy industry reach their potential and create more value. I’ve been doing it for a while and I really enjoy it. I learn something new every day. And for that reason, I expect to be better tomorrow.
Ok, your turn… What do you do?
If you’ve been doing it for awhile, chances are you’ve gotten pretty good at it. So… are you? Ok, maybe you’re too humble to answer that question. So how about answering this one… Are you giving it your very best, every day? I really hope you can answer “Yes” to that question. Not for my sake, but for yourself and the people that depend on you.
I’ll be the first to say it… I love working with people who are consummate professionals. Regardless of the profession that someone has chosen, I genuinely like and respect people who are dedicated to their craft and are committed to giving their best effort to the people they serve.
And at the same time, I’ll admit… I get really irritated by people who just go through the motions and merely “call it in”. You’ve seen these people in action… no passion, no attention to detail, no extra effort to give their best “performance”.
I don’t know, maybe the years have taken a toll on them and they no longer find joy in their work like they used to. Or maybe they feel stuck and they just keep doing it because they think they have to.
But here’s the thing… every time you show up to do what you do, you get another chance to do it better than the last time. Every day is another opportunity to prove (to yourself) how good you’ve become at what you do.
Regardless of what you do today, hopefully, you choose to give it your best.
Great message Tom! I have to admit I fell into that hole for a couple years, but I’m back focused and passionate. I always enjoy, appreciate and reflect upon your blogs and articles in Progressive Dairyman. Blessings to you!!
Thanks for the feedback John… I’ve been there too. And as always, thanks for taking the time to read what I write, I really appreciate it. All the best to you and your family!
