Today, just like every day, you’ll have to tackle a long ‘to-do list’ and make a lot of decisions.  So, as you go down the list and contemplate each item, what are your choices?

Do it well…  do it ‘good enough’…  do it poorly…  or do nothing.

Although managers get frustrated with employees that do their work ‘good enough’ and ‘poorly’, most people probably don’t make a conscious decision to do it that way.  It’s just easier than doing it well… so, they do what’s easier.

What about you?  How often do you choose to take the easy road?  Although you might not realize it, you probably do it all the time.

You see, the easy road for managers and leaders isn’t the same as it is for employees.  Your easy road is when you look at your to-do list and decide to put off that phone call or project for another day.  It’s the comment “I’ve gotta think about it” that you tell salespeople each time they call or stop by.  It’s the decision to ignore an area of the dairy that’s not performing well because you hate dealing with conflict.

Sure, once in awhile the timing isn’t right, so it’s strategically smart to wait and do nothing until you’re ready.  But how many times can that be the reason for choosing to do nothing?

Although everyone can probably recognize what’s wrong with doing something ‘good enough’ or ‘poorly’, the downfall of frequently procrastinating isn’t as obvious.  The problem with ‘doing nothing’ is that while you’re standing still, the world around you keeps moving.

So what’s on your to-do list today?  Are you ready to do it well, or will you end up choosing to do nothing?
